Orbit 57946 B-hyve Smart Indoor/Outdoor 6-Station WiFi Sprinkler System Controller
The Orbit 57946 B-hyve (Canadian readers click here) (UK readers click here for the comparable Orbit 94550 – B-hyve Smart Indoor/Outdoor 12-Station, also works with Alexa) allows for controlling your sprinklers in the free companion app, at the timer console itself, or via Alexa voice commands. The unit also includes an option to let the weather-based software create a timer program for you. Weather Sense technology provides watering based on site conditions such as slope, soil type, sun/shade, historical ET and live weather feeds. Wiring is simple and convenient and the plug-and-go line cord can also be cut for hardwired applications. EPA WaterSense approved and certified, your B-hyve timer may be eligible for local rebates. Weather-resistant case allows for mounting indoors or outdoors. Note that a 12-station unit is also available on the same product page in Amazon’s US and Canada stores.
Rachio 8 Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller, 2nd Generation
The Rachio 8 Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller, 2nd Generation (Canadian readers click here) (not currently available in the UK) has its own companion app as well as working with Alexa or Google Home like the Orbit model above, and like the Orbit it’s also EPA WaterSense certified (and therefore eligible for utility rebates in participating US communities). You can set your own schedules or input details like plant type and sun exposure to let Rachio calculate the correct watering schedule and amounts. Rachio Weather Intelligence uses comprehensive weather data to automatically adjust your irrigation schedule based on the latest local forecasts. A 16-zone unit is available on the same product page.
Netro 6-Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller
The Netro 6-Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller (Canadian readers click here) is a little more basic than the Rachio and Orbit in terms of programming options, but for some consumers its focus on easy installation and use will fit the bill perfectly. It’s not EPA WaterSense certified, but it does have a free companion app that allows for remote scheduling and monitoring.
