12/1/17 Alexa Fast Tips Friday: Alexa Calendar and List Enhancements

Welcome to LME’s 12/1/17 Alexa Fast Tips Friday. Today I’m sharing information about some recent Alexa calendar and list enhancements.

To Do List

Calendar: Cancel Appointments By Voice, By Touch on Show
Finally! This is a feature Alexa device owners have wanted ever since Alexa calendar linking and support was first announced. From Amazon’s Manage Calendar Events with Alexa page, Delete An Event topic, here are the voice and touch commands you can use:

“Delete my [time] event.”

“Cancel my [date] event.”

“Delete [event] from my calendar.”

On Echo Show : When viewing your calendar, select the calendar event and select Delete.

Custom Lists: Create Your Own! (US only right now)
This one was actually announced a while ago, but it took a while for Amazon to get the software update rolled out to the Alexa app for all users so I’ve held off on sharing it.

Now, when you go to Main Menu > Lists in the Alexa app, there’s a new “Create List” option at the top of the screen. You can create your own custom lists using this feature, and manage them with voice commands the same as your default To Do List and Shopping List. From Amazon’s Manage Your Lists help page:

Each list can have up to 100 items, and each item can be up to 256 characters long.

Say, “Add [item] to my [shopping / to-do] list,” or “What’s on my [shopping / to-do] list?”

If you have created a custom list, just ask Alexa to add an item directly to it. For example, you can say, “Add [item] to my Groceries list,” or “What’s on my Christmas Shopping list?”

Super-useful for updating lists by voice, then being able to access them via the Alexa app on your phone while you’re out and about. This feature is currently only available to US Alexa users, but I expect it will be rolled out to other regions soon.
