It’s Monday, so of course that means there are Stupid Alexa Tricks in store. But first, following last week’s post about listening to podcasts on the Echo, helpful LME reader Nathan Slabaugh had some tips and clarification to add on the LME Facebook page:
Good write up, but you might want to add to the caveats that even though you can’t play specific past episodes, you can say “Alexa, skip” and it will advance to the next episode in line (from most recent to oldest). Also of note, you can’t pause or stop the podcast, go listen to an Audible book or other music, and then come back to the podcast where you left off (like Audible does), this is pretty annoying because it means that you have to listen to the entire podcast in one sitting, that is unless you pause it and don’t play anything else on your Echo before you say resume.
Yes, what Nathan says is true of all audio playback on the Echo as of this writing: the “pause” command is only useful if you don’t have Alexa play any other audio content before coming back to resume playback, because the “continue” command will always default to whatever was the last audio source Alexa played for you.
Amazon’s Whispersync ensures you can always pick up where you left off in an Audible book by using the, “Read [book title]” command, and “Read my book” will also pick up where you left off in whatever Audible book you listened to most recently. But “continue” is a kind of all-purpose audio playback command.
