Just last week I wrote about changes underway in the Smart Home area, and this week Amazon unveiled its official overhaul for how Smart Home / connected devices are connected and handled in the Alexa app.
What’s New In Smart Home?
Amazon recently added this text to the What’s New? section in the Alexa app:
Enable smart home skills in the Alexa app
To improve your smart home experience, we converted smart home links into Alexa Skills. You still manage smart home devices in the Smart Home section, but now you browse, enable, and review smart home skills in the Skills section of the Alexa app. To do this, go to the Skills section of the Alexa app, select Refine, and then select Smart Home Skills. If you already have a smart home device set up, you don’t need to set it up again.
For more information, go to Connect a Smart Home Device to Alexa.
New Smart Home Skill Sort
As the screenshot above shows (click or tap on the image to view an enlarged version in a new tab or window), there’s now a new Smart Home sort option in the Skills tab of the Alexa app, too.
Click or tap to check the box next to Smart Home and the skills list will be filtered to display only Smart Home skills. This is an option consumers have been wanting for a very long time, so kudos to Amazon for making it happen.
